Henna time!

I have been thinking of applying henna to my hair for several reasons:
  1. to cover my ever increasing numbers of grays without chemicals
  2. to strengthen & condition hair
  3. to possibly add some bling bling

I am leaning towards neutral henna, AKA cassia obovata, as I don't really want my hair with any red sheen stuff going on since I already have some highlights.

After much consideration I decided to go with the Surya Henna in Neutral which I purchased from iherb http://www.iherb.com/Surya-Henna-Brasil-Powder-Natural-Hair-Coloring-and-Treatment-Powder-Neutral-1-76-oz-50-g/14569?at=0

If you have ever done henna, YOU KNOW IT IS SO MESSY!!! I haven't done a henna on my hair in about 20 years or so, so I had no recollection of the process. DID I SAY IT WAS MESSY? So anyways, I followed the package instructions, it came with honey & gloves. I mixed it up, applied it to my hair, wrapped my hair in plastic & sat under the heat cap for 30 minutes.

I was dreading rinsing this stuff out....I actually rinsed the majority of it out outside. I then applied cholesterol DC with heat. When I rinsed it out....I gotta say MY COILS WERE MORE DEFINED!!! But it not was completely rinsed out, stuff was flaking out of my hair!! So I rinsed some more & some more & some more! Finally got the water to run completely clear for several minutes!! This henna is something else to work with, but I am impressed with the results thus far! I can't say when I will do it again, I may try the henna creme I have seen to see if it is any easier.

Aloe vera as styling gel

Well, being the temperature here was about 92 with high humidity & a lack of firm hold styling product, my beautiful twistout expanded and frizzed out & up. Not horribly frizzy, but enough that I knew I couldn't rock it for 3 more days....

So I decided to bite the bullet & retwist. I applied something to help hold & define, since we are expecting over 50% percent humidity the rest of the week. I decided on aloe vera gel, since i just got a big bottle delivered.

It came out very nicely IMO, a definite improvement....What do you think about it?
Here are the results:

Loving my twistout

So I decided to blowdry my hair & wear a twistout for the week.
Here's my regimen this week:

  • Shampooed with Giovanni 50/50
  • DC'ed with a ORS pack with heat for 30 minutes
  • Leave-in was Giovanni Direct
  • Sealed with castor oil
  • Aphogee spray for heat protectant
  • Sectioned off hair, blowdried section & twisted.

The pics are not the best....it was 7am!!! Here are my results, fluffy & starting to frizz out a bit....BUT I LOVE IT ANYWAYS!!! :)

Hair this weekend

So after being a bad girl straightening my dirty hair last week, I figured I better give some extra TLC to my hair.
I decided to do a pre-treatment of Aloe Vera gel & Ojon Restorative Pre-Cleansing Treatment.
I applied the Aloe to my scalp & hair, then the Ojon and sat under the heat cap for 30 minutes. Here are the results from that, I think my hair liked it & is no longer mad at me for straightening last week :

Ok change of plans, my DH just called & said he would like to go shopping this evening, guess today won't be my hair day....so now I am going to do a prepoo conditioner & go LOL!! I am so glad I did not start shampooing my hair....I just threw on a headband & left.

I've been a bad girl!

Ok ladies, I have been a bad girl with my hair! I straightened my hair & IT WAS NOT CLEAN. I know it was wrong...that didn't stop me :(

I should have been washing & deep conditioning my hair, treating it with love...but what was I doing? Straightening it with my electric comb & Ultrasheen creme press. What can I say for myself? Sadly, not much....I was sitting there looking in the mirror at my myself, contemplating what style did I want for the upcoming week. Suddenly, I wanted it straight. Right that moment. Not in a few hours, RIGHT THAT MOMENT. The next thing I knew, I was turning on the hot comb my sister had just returned to me and pressing away.

I don't regret it either, although I may later. I pressed it straight, but not bone straight. I plan to wear my hair in a high bun all week. So sorry no pics, my camera is broken.
