My Holiday Party Updo

My job had a dress-up holiday party this year Yea!  I had initally intended to straighten my hair, as I have been promising to straighten my hair since my July.  Well, it didn't happen; the day just got away fron me and before I knew it, it was 90 minutes before the time I had planned to leave with no solid outfit & no hair do!

I had been wearing a twistout all week and I wanted something a little more festive and glam.  My hair finally decided to cooperate with a high bun LOL!  I heavily misted with rosewater, put some avocado butter on for shine & smoothed it up into a bun.  I put a scarf on to smooth it out a bit while I figured out what to put on.
When I took the scarf off, it was cute....but not the look I had envisioned.  It needed more....more volume!  I pulled out some 4a/4b hair tracks from my hair stash for the solution.  I undid my bun and placed some in the middle of my hair for a filler & redid my bun, so that my hair was on the outside of the bun.  I sprinkled a few sparkle hair pins around and it looked much better.

I would have liked to smoothed it back down, but it was time to fly! What do you think ladies?

Blowdried My Hair

It has been a decided chill in the air, more so at night, which led me to think about blow drying my hair to avoid a wet head all night & probably part of the next day also.  I didn't want it too straight though, so I decided on using my old blow dryer instead of the new one.
I sectioned it into quarters then each quarter into quarters, then using the dryer I got my hair about 75% dry ( focusing on my roots) & let it air dry the rest of the way in a bun.

I wore a bun most of the work week, so I had a pretty low maintenance hair week :)

Twistout results

I wore my hair in a high bun(twists) for the rest of the week.  It is so nice to just get up in the morning and not have to concern myself with any hair manipulation at all!  And my hair still feels moisturized, when I grab it, even the ends, it is springy, soft & able to be squished, not crunchy or stiff like it sometimes does by Day 5.
I took the twists done on Day 5.  Here are some of my twist out results: I wore it down some and in a ponytail too.  It was really defined at first, but I kept playing with it , so I lost some of the definition in spots.  Oddly, I actually prefer my twist outs to be on the messy looking side vs just taking the twists a loose and leaving them neat.

Twists

I had my hair in twists all last week, so I am craving to do something fun to it. Twists are great- low maintenance, versatile styling, looks good, can be easily accessorized.....but afterwhile, I just get bored with them!!! Adding headbands, scarves, crochet flowers & hair bling helps....

Hair regimen this week & updo

I am undecided what to do with my hair this week, but I am off on Monday, so I have an extra day to figure it out. I did decide to do the coconut lime treatment again today.

I refrigerated my can of coconut milk overnight, so the good stuff would solidify & it would be uberthick. I added a tsp of lime juice, stirred it up & let it come back to room temperature before applying. This stuff is so rich & creamy, I started to think of what else it would be for, maybe some kind of leave in(without the lime juice of course). I sat under my hair dryer for 30 minutes with this on.

I shampooed with hair rules cleansing cream & DC with Joico Moisture Balm(one of my absolute favs!) with heat for 20 minutes.

I used Giovanni Direct leave-in & sealed with Castor oil, I just a plastic bag until I decided what I wanted to do. I finally decided to blow dry about 75% with it stretched out, completely avoiding my ends. I then, placed rollers in air dry the rest of the way overnight.

I decided to do updos this week.....Day 1 french roll.

Updo - My french roll!!

I am finally able to to do a traditional updo >>> a french roll! And due to the thickness of my hair, I don't need any aids, socks, foam or bumpitts !! I didnt use any gel, so I did use quite a few hair pins to keep hairs in place. In the future when recreating this style, I would definitely use some gel or aloe vera to hold hairs in place. And of course, some decorative accents! ;)
